Annoying noises Brits would like to banish revealed to mark the launch of Huawei FreeBuds 3

HUAWEI usher in new intelligent sound with open-fit active noise cancellation True Wireless Stereo earbuds.

Whether it’s heavy breathing, traffic noise, loud talkers, sniffing on public transport or loud eaters – research commissioned by Huawei shows that Brits are crying out for some rest bite, with more than one in five (21%) admitting that they feel calmer and more relaxed when listening to music in public places. The most annoying sounds Brits want to banish are loud chewing/gulping (41%), people sniffing and coughing (35%), hearing overly loud conversations (28%), nose whistling (19%) and ‘repeated pen clicking’ (18%) – despite 61% of Brits admitting having committed the same ‘sin’ they find annoying.

Ensuring the nation can get a moments peace or to focus on their chosen soundtrack, the launch of HUAWEI FreeBuds 3 True Wireless Stereo Earbuds, heralds a new powerful and intelligent sound, utilising an advanced ear canal method to ensure unparalleled sonics, including several industry leading features. Open-fit active noise cancellation FreeBuds 3 adjusts to the user’s different ear canal shapes and a double tapping on/off ANC function means you can enjoy clear music in any environment, no matter how noisy or ‘annoying’.

Avoiding the day-to-day noise and bustle of the environment isn’t easy – 21% of Brits admit having gone as far as to put their headphones or earbuds on without anything playing to block out interruptions and to avoid people interrupting. Furthermore, the research revealed that a third (33%) of Brits find it easier to concentrate and were more productive when they had earbuds in.

Commenting on the science behind why certain sounds are a common annoyance for so many, Head of Acoustics at Cambridge University, Dr Anurag Agarwal: “Certain types of sounds evoke a "fight or flight" response by activating the primitive parts of the brain. They make us alert and so we cannot ignore them. We are also more sensitive to sounds in a certain range of frequencies. The sounds we find most annoying contain these sensitive frequencies and trigger the primitive parts of our brain."

Furthermore, research by Huawei reveals the nation is divided when it comes to their music choices – with some finding certain songs a bugbear, whilst others admit it’s a ‘guilty pleasure’. Favourite alone-time artists included Ed Sheeran (15%) The Bee Gees (12%) and Neil Diamond (10%). ‘Fairytale of New York’ by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl was revealed as the nation’s guilty ‘Christmas’ pleasure. However, 8% of Brits have go so far as deleting their ‘recently played’ list on their favourite music apps, or naming a playlist something entirely ‘more credible’ (7%).

Commenting on the reasons we have guilty music pleasures and how to manage the effect of annoying noises, Behavioural Psychologist, Jo Hemmings added: “In a world where much of our lives are played out on social media, we still feel judged by others on our choice of tunes, so inevitably we seek some space to enjoy our guilty music pleasures in private. When we are listening to our unique music choice in the privacy of our own ears, we neither want to be interrupted by the tinny sound of someone else’s music drifting over from their earphones nor let others overhear our guilty pleasures!”

Justin Costello, Director of Marketing, Huawei UK and Ireland said “We’ve engineered the HUAWEI FreeBuds 3 with intelligent sound capabilities and features to accommodate users busy and often noisy lives. The incessant background sounds, poor battery life or insufficient connectivity interfering in their sound experience is a thing of the past. Whatever you enjoy listening to the HUAWEI FreeBuds 3 give you the freedom, control and clarity to experience it in all its glory”.

It’s good news for 20% of Brits who admitted they would prefer to avoid the repetitive Christmas tunes particularly Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas is You - The HUAWEI FreeBuds 3 are able to provide four hours of playback from a single charge, and a total of 20 hours when used alongside the charging case – ensuring you can listen to whatever playlist you want and not Christmas songs on loop.
