SIXTEEN suspected drugs pushers have been arrested and three people charged in connection with drug offences in Garstang after being snared in a three-month police blitz.
Operation Nullify was led by the Garstang neighbourhood police team in a bid to crack down on drug dealing across the town.
Over a three-month campaign, police have carried out a series of drug raids and stop checks on vehicles in the area.
A large quantity of drugs, including cannabis, cocaine, amphetamine and mephedrone was recovered during the raids and 16 people were arrested.
And three people have now been charged with drug offences, including intent to supply cannabis.
Sergeant Danielle Freaney, neighbourhood police sergeant for Garstang and Over Wyre, said: “The use of illegal drugs causes problems throughout the local community.
“Operations targeting the illicit supply of drugs will continue and I would like to take this opportunity to thank any members of the public who have assisted us.
“It is clear that the local community are not willing to tolerate drugs in their area and we will continue to do our utmost to deter drug dealing in our neighbourhoods.”
Among the operations carried out, police searched numerous homes in Garstang, Forton and Fleetwood. Items recovered included a haul of class A and B drugs.
And in a raid on a property in Croston Road, Garstang, on July 20 a quantity of amphetamine, knuckle dusters and cash were seized.
A 37-year-old male from Garstang has been interviewed and bailed.
On June 4 and July 28, two raids were carried out on a flat on Croston Road, Garstang, and police seized a quantity of suspected mephedrone and cannabis.
A 19-year-old woman from Catterall was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B controlled drugs and is on bail. A 23-year-old man was issued with a warning for cannabis possession.
Matthew Brown, 21, from Norton Road, Cabus, was charged with possessing a class B drug, has appeared in court and been issued with a fine.
On June 27, police swooped on a property in Moss Lane, Garstang, and five ounces of cannabis bush were recovered. Two arrests were made.
A 44-year-old woman was later released without charge, while Kevin Thornton, 28, from Moss Lane, was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply and is scheduled to appear at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court on September 30.
And following a vehicle check on the A6 at Bilsborrow on May 4, suspected cocaine was found. A 24-year-old man from Catterall and a man from Longridge, also 24, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A controlled drugs and have been released on bail.
Wayne Perks, 31, from Dorchester Road, Garstang, was charged with theft and is due to appear at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court today (August 24.)
Others arrested in connection with the operation have been bailed pending further investigation.
