IT looks like it will soon be “all change” to substandard changing and shower facilities at Garstang Sports and Social Club.
The club has submitted plans which will see alterations to improve its clubhouse off High Street as well as the setting up of a temporary building to be used changing rooms while alterations are carried out on the clubhouse.
The changes are part of on-going efforts to boost the fortunes of the sports and social club, home to several Garstang sporting groups, including Garstang FC which is currently bottom of the premier division of the West Lancashire League.
The club has already obtained permission for lighting columns, turnstiles and fencing around the playing area.
Garstang-based planning agent Graham Anthony Associates, has lodged the latest plans with Wyre Council
A letter explaining the need for the improvements says Garstang FC has gained promotion on two separate occasions, but due to inadequate ground facilities hasn’t been allowed to progress.
The letter adds: “This in turn has had the knock-on effect of our local team losing good players to clubs that meet the required grounds criteria and infrastructure.”
Part of the requirements for the current league, and moving to the higher league, are for the football club to have a certain standard of changing and showering facilities, which at present are “substandard.”
The changes, if approved by Wyre Council, will see improvements to both the home and away teams’ changing area, as well as internal alterations and a new door.
Garstang FC is keen to step up into the North West Counties League, which would see it following in the steps of Barnoldswick FC which made the step up a season or two ago, and have since met with great success.
Garstang FC commercial manager Mr Les Taylor said: “If all goes according to plan it is hoped that that the fitting out of a portable building for extra changing facilities and alterations to the present changing rooms will be complete prior to the beginning of the next football season.”
“Regarding permission obtained for the erection of floodlights, turnstiles etc. we are at present discussing the quotes that have been submitted before we proceed with the work.
“Regarding the timescale, it is hoped that some if not all of the work will be carried out before the next football season starts.”
