This year funds will be donated to the ‘Pitch In’ campaign to help in achieving the school’s £50,000 target towards their new state-of-the-art all-weather multi-sports pitch.

The rural run has been a popular fixture at the start of the year for more than 20 years .

In 2015, more than 500 runners took part, with £2, 500 raised.

Organisers are hoping even more will turn up for Sunday’s event.

The main race is followed by a 2km fun run, with entries welcome to join in wearing fancy dress.

Geoff Marklands, marketing co-ordinator at Garstang Community Academy, said:
“It is always a very successful day and a big event for the school.

“It is the biggest fund-raiser of the year and we are hoping this year to raise as much as we can towards the new school pitch.”

Runners will set off from Garstang Community Academy, Garstang Road, Bowgreave on Sunday, January 10, at 11am.
