Herbie, a very friendly two- year-old cockerpoo, went missing from a garden in Barnacre, near Garstang, on Bank Holiday Monday.

Despite extensive searches and appeals on social media he has not been sighted since.

Owners the Crossley family have revealed the pet has a very special significance for their daughter, six-year-old Emily, who has learning difficulties.

Dad Daniel said: “Herbie takes her to school and collects her and sleeps on her bed. She absolutely dotes on him and is absolutely devastated.”

The pet was being cared for by friends whilst the Crossley family, who live in Catterall, had been on a caravanning holiday in Holland.

Daniel, who runs a recruitment agency in Morecambe, said: “We are very hopeful that Herbie will be found....if he’s not it doesn’t bear thinking about.

“We’re just really, really concerned.”

He said that Herbie has a very, very friendly nature and is a star pet for the rest of the family too – mother Karen and children Olivia, 13, Victoria,10, and Benedict, six months, adding: “They are all upset.”

Herbie’s coat is chocolate brown, he has a slight dash of white on his chest, long eyelashes and a moustache, but will be lighter coloured at the moment after a recent trim.

He was outside in the garden with his carers’ other three dogs when he went missing and it is feared he may have followed walkers heading up to local beauty spot Nicky Nook.

The owners are appealing to anyone who may have seen him or has found him to contact Daniel on 07812373706, family friend Gill Jolleys on 07855445596 or Garstang Police.
