Appeal to dog owners after sheep worrying

This specifically follows an incident on Monday at a Woodplumpton farm when two dogs got out and worried sheep. One of the sheep was injured so badly it had to be destroyed.

The owner of the dogs has been fined by police and ordered to pay damages. Prior to Christmas, PC Chris Banks said a dog got into a turkey pen at Inglewhite and killed a number of turkeys. Also, inbetween these incidents, he said police received several reports from farmers about dogs getting loose and worrying sheep.

He said: “We are appealing to dog owners to be careful. There seems to be an increase in dogs getting out at the moment. Please make sure your dogs are secure, especially when out walking.”
