It’s all change on the pub front again – but this time it’s a reopening that is in the news.

The Green Man pub on Silk Mill Lane at Inglewhite, is to re-open today, (Wednesday), at 6pm, following investment by owners Punch Taverns.

Manager Mike Dolan said: “We’ve worked really hard to transform the pub into a welcoming venue that will cater for everyone in the community.”

The pub hit the headlines in June when villagers who tried to buy the pub – which had been empty for a year since landlords Dorothy and Paul Cross left – hit out at the brewery for setting a “ridiculous” price tag.

A group of three had offered £750,000 for the freehold, but this was rejected by brewers.

The Green Man had been considered the hub of the community, hosting meetings,
charity events and quizzes.

Villagers said they were faced with cancelling their nativity play, pantomimes and charity events, and groups such as Neighbourhood Watch had to seek a new home.

Now Mike, chef manager Rob Wilton and staff will be offering refreshments ranging from tea, coffee and cakes to a “modern classic menu”, including home-cooked fare, with selected cask ales and wines.

Punch Taverns’ partnership development manager, Tracey Duncan, said: “I am certain the new offering will be a hit with both old and new customers and they are looking forward to welcoming customers back to the Green Man.”
