St Hilda’s Church, Bilsborrow, was “full to the rafters” on Sunday with families turning out in force to celebrate its harvest festival.

More than 100 families joined in the traditional celebrations at the church, organised by Fellside team rector the Rev Jeff Finch and children and staff at John Cross CE School.

The well attended service included presentations and songs by pupils from the school.

Afterwards bacon and sausage sandwiches were served, thanks to the efforts of John and Kath Blackley and Lawrence and Judith Upton. Homemade treats and cakes were also on the menu.

Many people took along baskets of food. These will be distributed among local people in need with a special note from one of the school children involved and some items will also go to Preston Food Bank. In his address, Rev Finch thanked all those who had contributed to the occasion, not least the ladies team who decorated the church, with the cooks and the teachers who had prepared and coached the children also getting praise.
