Country businesses get cream of tourism gongs


RURAL Wyre tourism attractions and other countryside-based businesses were among the main winners at the 2012 Wyre Tourism Awards.

Garstang Walking Festival took Event of the Year for its continued appeal to visitors and local residents.

Other rural Wyre winners were: Website of the Year, Cleveley Mere, Forton; PR, Promotion & Media, The Priory Hotel and Restaurant, Scorton;

Green Tourism, Gardeners Cottage at Growing With Nature, Pilling; Excellence in Customer Care, Wyrebank Banqueting Suite, Garstang; Excellence in Business, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet, near Garstang.

Other winners were: Business Innovation, The Briardene Hotel, Cleveleys; Excellence in Visitor Facilities Coast Apartments, North Shore; Tourism in the Community, Rossall Beach Residents and Community Group; Special Award, Farmer Parrs ‘Giving Young People a Chance’, Fleetwood; Access for all, Wyre Estuary Country Park in Thornton.

Coun Lynne Bowen, Chairman of Wyre Tourism Association, said: “The awards are fitting recognition for businesses who have gone the extra mile and excelled in the past year.

“Our tourism businesses continually demonstrate innovation, diversification and determination to increase trade in a difficult economic climate.

“The value of their contribution to Wyre’s economy should not be underestimated.”

The presentation ceremony was held at Thornton Little Theatre.

The awards, organised by the Wyre Tourism Association, recognise the quality, determination and achievements of Wyre’s tourism businesses.
