A prolific burglar who stole more than £20,000 of valuables from caravans across Lancashire has been locked up for four years.

Leslie Rawstron admitted 21 counts of burglary when he appeared at Preston Crown Court.

The court heard the 40-year-old targeted caravan parks across Garstang, Longridge and Carnforth over a four-month period between July and October 2012.

Rawstron broke into both static caravans and houses close to the sites and stole more than £20,000 of electrical items and jewellery.

The hearing was told Rawstron, of Cherry Close, Blackburn, waited until he was sure the owners were away before breaking in.

PC Dave Bowler, of the Blackburn target team at Lancashire police, said Rawstron had caused a lot of upset to his victims by stealing goods with sentimental value.

He added: “This has been a long and complex investigation.

“Rawstron deliberately targeted empty caravans, stealing personal and sentimental items from innocent and hard working people.

“The scale of the thefts he committed demonstrates the damage that just a single person can cause to our communities.

“That is why it is so important that people continue to contact us with information about crime.”
