Drink driver jailed after road accident

A driver who was involved in a crash while more than four times the legal alcohol limit has been sent to prison for 12 weeks.

Ionut-bogdan Harabula, 26, of Grime Street, Chorley, appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court after a road accident in Chorley on April 27.

He was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Passat when the incident happened on Poplar Street in the town. The 26-year-old entered guilty pleas to two charges of drink driving and driving without insurance.

The bench said the offence was serious because of his extremely high reading, the afact there was an accident and the location.

A breath test performed by police gave a reading of 144mg of alcohol - the legal limit is 35mg. Harabula was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

He is disqualified from driving for a total of 38 months.

Woman admits she grew cannabis

A woman who grew cannabis at a property in Preston has been ordered to pay compensation to an electricity firm.

Ruth Dugdale pleaded guilty to a charge of producing a class B drug, but a charge of illegally abstracting electricity was withdrawn by prosecutors.

The 32-year-old, of no fixed abode, was arrested after police found cannabis plants growing at the house on August 1 last year.

She was given a 12 month discharge and ordered to pay £321.94 compensation to a power company.

The bench, sitting at Chorley Magistrates’ Court, ruled that she must also pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 towards her prosecution costs.

The court has ordered the cannabis plants to be forfeited under the Misuse of Drugs Act and destroyed.

John Begbie, 50, of Beech Drive, Newton, Preston, admitted flouting a red light signal and must pay a £53 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Marlon Cross, 32, of Sheep Hill Brow, Clayton-le-Woods, Chorley, admits driving without due care and attention and failing to stop for police, and must pay a £80 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Bethany Ainsworth, 19, of Heversham Avenue, Fulwood, Preston, admits failing to meet insurance requirements and must pay a £70 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Kurt Stevens, 30, of Queensway, Warton, was found guilty of failing to give driver information and must pay a £660 fine, £66 surcharge and £85 costs.

Mohammed Salim Khan, , 46, Farringdon Close, Preston, admits possessing heroin and was ordered to pay a £120 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Hannah Kasim, 30, of no fixed abode, was discharged for 12 months after admitting being drunk and disorderly in Preston and must pay a £20 surcharge.

Williams Edens, 60, of Clough Acre, Chorley, got a rehabilitation activity and restraining order after admitting harassing a woman and must pay a £375 fine, £85 surcharge and £85 costs.

Christopher Briggs, 27, of Marine Road East, Morecambe, got a curfew after admitting assaulting a woman and must pay an £85 surcharge and £85 costs.
