Man named and charged after Blackburn assault leaves victim with serious head injuries

Brendan Duff, of no fixed address, will appear before Blackburn Magistrates this morning (April 29), charged with Section 18 Assault with intent to commit GBH.

It follows an attack outside the Salvation Army centre in Clayton Street at around 4.30pm on Monday (April 26), which left a 35-year-old man with head injuries.

The victim was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at shortly after 4.30pm on Monday, April 26 to a report of an assault in Clayton Street outside the Salvation Army in Blackburn.

"Officers attended and a man aged 35 was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with a head injury. He remains in a very serious condition.

"Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Brendan Duff, 30, of no fixed address was charged with Section 18 Assault with intent to commit GBH and is due to appear before Blackburn magistrates this morning (April 29)."

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting log number 1037 of April 26.
