A BAND from near Manchester are achieving radio airplay and earning rave reviews for their new song....all about Garstang!

DILE, whose members hail from Hyde, have even filmed the video for the single in Garstang and now say they'd love to come back to play some live dates here.

Guitarist Simon Bennett says they came up with the idea for the song after singer Dennis Matthews was chatting to a customer in his Manchester record shop.

"This bloke said something about Garstang and said that nothing ever happened there'' explains Simon. "So Dennis thought it would be fun to turn it round and write a song about loads of things happening in Garstang, all sorts of bizarre things going on.''

Simon describes the result as "cheerful nonsense'', and says the lyrics are all about "things that make us laugh''.

The band filmed the video in June, using locations on the High Street, near the Market Cross and just down the road in Churchtown.

"We met loads of really nice people who were interested in what we were doing'' says Simon.

And 'Garstang' has been helping DILE get plenty of recognition. Former Inspiral Carpets keyboard player turned DJ Clint Boon has been playing it on his XFM radio show for several weeks, and it has also picked up airplay on Manchester's Revolution radio station.

DILE - whose sound has been described as everything from ska and soul to punk and pop - have gigs lined up including an appearance at the Liverpool Calling Festival this Saturday, and at venues including Manchester Academy and The Castle in Oldham over the coming months.

But Simon says they'd be delighted to 'bring Garstang home' with a live show in rural Wyre.

"That would be great - if som eone wants to give us a gig around there we'd love to do it.''
