Preston, the Fylde coast and other parts of Lancashire saw more thunder and lightning on Friday night and early Saturday morning, after major storms on Wednesday night.

The storms have been triggered by the heatwave that has swept across the country this week, as temperatures topped 30 degrees celsius on the Fylde coast.

Temperatures are set to cool off in the North West this weekend though, according to the Met Office.

Forecasters anticipate highs of 22 and 23 with some warm sunshine expected, set to be followed by showers on Sunday evening and possibly more thunder.

Photographer Stephen Cheatley set himself up on Blackpool’s South Pier on Friday and took his “possibly greatest photograph” of lightning striking over Central Pier and Blackpool Tower.

He took to Twitter to share the stunning photo, adding: “Can’t believe I got this shot.”
