As plans forge ahead for Garstang and District Children’s Festival, the organisers have arranged for the first tableaux meeting for this year’s event to be held on Monday, March 4, at the Royal Oak Hotel starting at 7.30pm.
Organisers would like a representative from each participating float to attend. There is still time to enter for this year’s event, which takes place on Spring Bank Holiday Monday, May 27,
Everyone is invited to enter a tableau for the big procession in the town’s biggest day of the year.
The organisers want to hear from play groups, schools, church groups and private individuals and there are no restrictions on the number of children involved. Financial assistance is given towards decorating the floats, and insurance will be arranged. A huge amount of work goes into organising the annual Children’s Festival, all of it done by volunteers.
Anyone who could spare some time to help with the ‘fetching and carrying’ would be very welcome. A spokesman said: “The organisers are a friendly and approachable bunch and are very keen to maintain a tradition dating back nearly 140 years.”
A committee meeting follows the tableaux meeting at 8pm and anyone interested in getting involved is invited. Alternatively you can contact the festival secretary on 01995 604159 or via the web sites www.garstangchildrensfestival.org, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
