Its opening coincided with the first wet day in weeks - but showgoers at the Royal Lancashire Show were not downhearted.

After weeks of sunshine, the opening day of the three-day event near Ribchester was rather gloomy and overcast.

But showgoers still enjoyed all there was on offer at the agricultural show - which this year premiered a Ladies' Day event and kids section.

There was also the traditional livestock and produce classes, plus equestrian displays and competitions.

The main arena played host to an array of events, and there were also stalls, refreshments and games for children.

The show, on Salesbury Hall Road, Ribchester, continues today and tomorrow from 9.30am til 5pm - and the weather forecast for the weekend is brighter with sunshine and cloud.
