Longridge Community Tour of Britain working group’s latest countdown was detailed to the town council at its latest meeting.

One of the main events is to be the cycle challenge taking place at Longridge Community Gym for the next six weeks up to the race coming through the town on September 7.

Heading the Tour Working Group, mayor Sarah Rainford, and the gym’s Angie Harrison said the aim was to involve as many adults as possible “to get into the spirit of the Tour of Britain with this indoor cycling challenge.”

“Members can take part as part of their workout and we would like to invite any adult member of the community who can cycle for 20 minutes or more, to book a slot for the challenge on any Saturday morning for the next six weeks leading up to the event

“It’s free and is supported with prizes from the town council.”

People can book a slot by phoning 01772 923986, via email, Facebook Longridge Community Gym, or just call in and speak with a member of the team.

Sarah and Angie’s aim is to get people to be more active, use sustainable transport such as walking and cycling, and there are free maps and cycling books for those keen to either continue or get back to cycling.

They add: “Every challenge attempt will be logged on our specially designed leader board database displayed in the gym, and in the News every week to keep the challenge flowing.”
