Figures for diabetes rising

There are now 1,501 more people with diabetes in Lancashire than there were a year ago, latest figures have revealed.

Research by Diabetes UK that around 74,885 people in Lancashire are now thought to have diabetes, which is up from 73,384 in 2012.

This means that 7.7 per cent of people in the area are now believed to have the condition and this number is expected to rise further.

Julie Byron, Diabetes UK’s regional manager for the North West, said: “It is alarming that the number of people with diabetes in Lancashire has gone up by 1,501 in a single year and addressing this situation needs to be one of the top health priorities in the area.”
