HM Coastguard helicopter spotted searching sea near North Pier in Blackpool

Police, paramedics and the coastguard were spotted responding to an incident near North Pier at around 3pm on Wednesday (November 1).

Footage from the scene shows a coastguard helicopter searched the sea as a crowd of onlookers watched the incident unfold near Comedy Carpet.

Lancashire Police later confirmed they were responding to a concern for welfare call along the beachfront.

A spokesman for the force added: “Enquiries negated any person at risk and our log was closed as a ‘false call’.”

HM Coastguard said they could not add any more information as it was a police-led incident.

The incident came after large waves battered the shoreline amid frequent downpours of heavy rain.
