The Protection Zone restrictions imposed around the Lancashire farm at the centre of the recent outbreak of bird flu in the county have been lifted today.

But the controls in a 10Km Surveillance Zone around Staveley’s Eggs at Field Foot Farm, Goosnargh remain in place.

An outbreak of the H7N7 strain was confirmed on July 13 and since then there have been restrictions affecting the movement of birds and other security measures. The Protection Zone stretched for 3 Km round the farm.

Surveillance zone restrictions will continue for at least a further nine days. These mean poultry and other captive birds cannot be moved within the zone to premises where other poultry, captive birds and mammals are kept, except under license. Other restrictions include a ban on releasing game birds.
