Magic and meal were the main ingredients for the Christmas party celebrated by members of Whitechapel and Inglewhite WI.

The magic was provided by magician Andrew Kerr, who delighted and mystified everyone with his fantastic card tricks and amazing illusions and the meal was a delicious buffet of festive fayre provided by members.

The venue of Whitechapel Village Hall was beautifully decorated and members - who welcomed guests from Claughton, Calder Vale, Barton, Garstang Phoenix, Garstang Cherestanc and Goosnargh and Whittingham WIs put shoeboxes of gifts and toys under the Christmas tree for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.

Birthday flowers were presented to Sue Pearson and a special presentation was made to Nancy Blackburn who was awarded a certificate in honour of her 40 years’ membership and also presented with flowers for her birthday. Nancy has played a leading role in the WI, both as a committee member and founder and conductor of the Beacon Singers who sang together at many events and were successful at festivals and competitions for more than 30 years. Nancy is also an accomplised artist who runs Whitechapel and Inglewhite WI’s art group and her work is always an integral part of the co-operative entry at the county show.

Pauline Barrow presented prizes and cups to Sue McDade and Margaret Catterall, who were joint competition winners and prizes to members for full attendance.

Sue thanked everyone who made cakes for the WI stall at the village hall Christmas fair, raising £197 for hall funds and after a fun quiz based on “A Christmas Carol” the evening ended with carols conducted by Nancy and Sue wishing everyone a very happy Christmas and reminding everyone of the next meeting on January 8.
