Olympic torch to pass through Garstang and St Michael’s

THE Olympic torch will visit Garstang and St Michael’s on its epic 10-week relay around the UK ahead of next summer’s games.

London Games organisers Locog have this week set out the 1,018 places the torch will pass through when it is carried around the UK from May 19 to July 27, 2012.

And Garstang and St Michael’s-on-Wyre are on the list of lucky destinations, with the flame passing through on June 22, as part of the leg between Kendal and Blckpool.

On the same day it will be carried by torchbearers through Carnforth, Bolton-le-Sands, Hest Bank, Morecambe, Lancaster, Fleetwood and Cleveleys and remain in Blackpool overnight.

The following day the torch will travel through Lytham St Annes, Warton, Preston, Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley, Crawshawbooth, Reedsholme and Rawtenstall before hedaing off to Manchester.

On the last day of the 70-day relay the flame, in the torch or Olympic lanterns, will travel down the River Thames to Olympic Park for the Olynpic Games opening ceremony.

During the 10-week relay, the torch will be carried by 8,000 torchbearers.
