MEET Garstang’s new festival queen.

Animal-lover Paige Hurst, 15, will take the crown at this year’s festival and join other dignitaries for the annual parade through the streets of the town on May 30.

Garstang High School Year 10 pupil Paige, of Hazelhurst Drive, was chosen for the coveted role after being secretly put forward for the ballot by her mum, Debbie, also a former festival queen.

Paige said: “I just screamed when I found out – I was really excited.

“But I’m a bit nervous about the speech!”

The fashionista added that she had already found the perfect dress for the day and was looking forward to dressing up with her friends, Jess Amiee-Jane, Tasha and Katie, who will all attend her as part of the retinue.

She said: “I went shopping with my mum and sister and tried on a few before I found the right one.

“Only my family have seen it – I’m going to keep it a secret until the day.”

Paige, who has an older sister ,Rebecca, 17, and brother Dominic,19, will be kept busy in the run-up to the event with her studies.

She is currently working hard for a Health and Social Care First Diploma and is also due to start work experience after the half-term at a nursery, the type of work she would like to pursue in the future.

In her spare time she enjoys walking with her dog, Victor, and has also walked in aid of charity, joining her mum and work colleagues from Myerscough College on a 16-mile charity walk and helping to raise over £1000 for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

And her one wish for when the big day arrives... is that it does not rain!
