Patient power has been given a boost in Preesall - after a local group scooped a top accolade for its work.
The Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) named the Patient Forum at the Over Wyre Medical Centre, Preesall as ‘Patient Participation Group of the Year’ at its recent AGM.
The Over Wyre Patient Forum, formed in 2012, is made up of volunteer local residents who meet regularly with Centre staff, including GPs, to help identify ways that services to patients can be improved.
The CCG’s criteria for the award stated it was looking for a group which had an excellent working relationship with their practice and had made a real difference to the patients.
Forum chair Ian Gibson said: “I am so pleased for our members. .. We have a simple common aim of wanting to help improve the health care available to Over Wyre residents.”
He said the award was also an acknowledgement of the practice’s commitment and support and added: “We are now pushing to extend our membership to include a still wider cross-section of our community and to support this aim, we have recently launched a Facebook group, where patients can put forward their views, experiences and ideas easily and quickly at a time to suit them”.
