Garstang mayor Coun Liz Webster is inviting people to kick-start the Christmas season by still joining her town’s Santa Dash ... but in their own time and at a social distance.

Coun Webster said: “We cancelled the Santa Dash this year for obvious reasons - Covid, but then we thought, we can still organise this, but in a different way. So we came up with the idea of a Virtual Santa Dash.

"We are encouraging people to run or walk their own 3-5km dressed as Santa, whenever they like, wherever they like, subject to Government guidelines of course, from Saturday December 5 right through to Boxing Day.”

She continued:”We hope people have fun, keep fit whilst raising money for two local causes. We have lowered the price to just £10 per adult and £5 per child. The entry fee includes a Santa Suit and bespoke Santa Dash medal. Collection is from Garstang.”

Proceeds will go to Mayoral charities the Garstang Millennium Green and the Garstang Christmas lights.

Coun Webster added: “It would be great if people shared their photos online and even by recording their dash on our Virtual Santa Dash on the Strava app.”
