High Sheriff Catherine Penny's Remembrance tribute

Lancashire's High Sheriff  Mrs Catherine Penny laid a poppy wreath this week on behalf of  all in the county who could not attend Remembrance services due to Coronavirus restrictions and on behalf of the voluntary sector.

Her personal message on the wreath, placed at the Hurst Green memorial cross on Remembrance Sunday, noted it was "in remembrance of all those who have given their lives in service for others".

A short socially distanced service was held at the cross, followed by wreath laying.

Representatives from local organisations attended and two students from nearby Stonyhurst College took part. Trumpet player Emanuel Raffray, 18, played the last post and Francesca Fitzsimmons,14, sang God Save The Queen. The service was lead by Father Tim Curtis and the High Sheriff's chaplain Canon Brian McConkey, vicar at Hurst Green and Rector of Ribchester.
