A one-man parade in Penwortham marks VE Day 75

Forces standard bearer Stuart Dagger paid homage to the Second World War generation with a one-man VE Day parade in his front street today.

And later he paid tribute to his neighbours in Malthouse Way, Penwortham who came out in force to pay their respects on the 75th anniversary of the ending of the war in Europe.

"It all went fantastically well," said RAF veteran Stuart who planned his stay-at-home ceremony when the planned parade in Preston city centre had to be abandoned due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I was immensely proud of everyone for coming out and paying their respects.

"The two-minute silence was impeccably observed - even the young kids stood there quietly.

"It was really moving. Even though we are in these terrible times right now it doesn't stop us remembering those heroic people of the Second World War."

Stuart, who is standard bearer for the RAF Association's Preston branch, is planning a 'sunset' ceremony for the neighbours tonight just before the Queens Speech at 9pm.
