Retired teachers and former classmates headed back to school for the St Aidan’s Technology College golden jubilee celebrations.

Staff and pupils, past and present, came together for a celebration day to mark the milestone, many taking the opportunity to delve into a new digitised archive of pictures which date back to 1963.

Special visitors included one of the school’s longest serving teachers, Miss Christine Bennett, who retired as deputy headteacher in 1999.

Head Andy Smith said: “This was a wonderful way to mark our 50th year. It was great for me to meet so many people who have fond memories of their time at St Aidan’s and to learn so many things I did not know about our history.”

The next celebration event will be the golden jubilee firework display on November 5.
