Ben Scotting who lives in Scorton, North Yorkshire, decided to call in at Scorton, Lancashire, during a solo bike ride from John O’Groats to Lands End in aid of a prostrate cancer charity.

And the people of the local Scorton, were very pleased to welcome Ben to their village.

Ben said: “In England I’m mainly using the A6 as far as Preston (though I am taking a detour off to do a famous Lancashire hill climb) and then heading towards Wigan, Northwich and Shrewsbury. After that I’m going to decide as I go along, though because I’ll have done Dunnet Head I’ll try my best to incorporate Lizard Point (the most southerly point of mainland UK).”

His solo ride is definitely just that – he was totally on his own carrying all his own support kit and emergency equipment. Scorton residents were so impressed with his enthusiasm and commitment, several local people asked for details of the sponsored event to be posted in the village shop, so they could add their own sponsorship to this great cause.

Ben added: “I’m doing this for Prostate Cancer UK. I don’t need to tell anyone how important research into prostate cancer is or how many men it affects.”
