Eager shoppers queued overnight to get into a new Garstang supermarket and receive one of its golden tickets.

More than 200 customers were clambering outside when Aldi opened its doors on Moss Lane for the first time on Thursday – with prizes on offer for the first 100.

The prizes included a 42 inch television, a tablet, luxury hampers and bags of Aldi shopping.

Peter Maxham (pictured) won the television star prize after queuing from 9.45pm on Wednesday.

Children from Garstang Primary School entertained customers in the queue with a variety of festive Christmas carols, and complimentary hot sausage and bacon sandwiches.

The store has also donated prizes for the school’s Christmas tombola, donated a range of products to the First Garstang Scout Group to support its weekly activities as well as creating 34 jobs.

Store manager Damien Hardman said: “There was a great buzz at the store this morning, and customers were really pleased with their golden prizes and picked up some great deals in store.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to Garstang Primary School for bringing some Christmas spirit to the opening. We hope the hampers go down well at the Christmas fair.”

The store is open seven days a week.
