At the site based in Church, staff were told about potential job losses in October as well as plans to relocate the business to Derbyshire, nearly 100 miles away.

Studio Retail, formerly Express Gifts, is a digital retailer owned by The Fraser Group which sells branded clothing and home product ranges.

Usdaw have confirmed that they have been informed about Studio Retail’s proposals and how this could impact staff and union members at the Accrington site.

The plans put forward by the retailer include restructuring their Accrington warehouse and reducing the overall number of staff employed there.

They also wish to transfer the products personalisation service from Studio to Frasers, with the permanent relocation of the department to Shirebrook.

Also included in the proposals is the integration of the operations at the Widnes warehouse into the Accrington facility, which could result in the permanent closure of the Widnes warehouse.

Usdaw area organiser, Julia Baldwin, said: “Studio Retail’s proposal of further redundancies at the (Hyndburn) site and the possible closure of the Widnes warehouse and Trafford office is devastating news for all staff.

“After many recent operational changes within the business, this further restructuring leaves staff in a very uncertain position and worried for their future at Studio Retail.

“Usdaw reps are supporting members through this difficult time and through the consultation process we are seeking the best possible outcome for those impacted.

“The union is working with the company to identify suitable alternative roles to maximise the number of staff retained in employment.”

A statement from Hyndburn MP, Sara Britcliffe read: “We have been made aware about this concerning news for workers at Studio. We have contacted officials to find out more clarification on the impacts and what is being done for employees affected.”

After buying out Hyndburn’s Studio Retail Ltd last year, Frasers purchased the 76 sq ft office property in Clayton-le-Moors which was used for Studio Retail's administrative and operational functions.

The office sits alongside the flagship warehouse in Church, which was also acquired by Frasers as part of the initial agreement.

The Fraser Group which owns Studio Retail said it would not be providing a comment about the proposals.
