‘Tip’ complaints go to watchdog

THE local government Ombudsman, which investigates serious grumbles against councils, has been sent two complaints into Lancashire County Council’s handling of the way council dealt with the Claughton waste centre closure.

Mr Robert Lobell, leader of the Save Tip in Garstang pressure group, and Mr Stephen Coombe of Hill View Road, Garstang, have both written to the Ombudsman demanding a probe over the closure and the way the county handled it.

Mr Lobell has accused the council of misleading the public, particularly over the claim that there were no alternatives to the closure, when he claims there were at least two.

Mr Coombe, who like Mr Lobell is an ex-civil servant, believes there was not enough cost benefit analysis information made public during the debate on the tip’s future.
