Casualty airlifted to hospital after crash closes road near M65 and motorists urged to use alternative routes

A person was airlifted to hospital following a collision on a busy road near the M65 in Rishton,

Blackburn Road was closed following a crash between Whitebirk Roundabout and Sidebeet Lane at approximately 12.30pm on Thursday (June 16).

North West Ambulance Service later confirmed a patient, reportedly a cyclist, was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital following the collision.

“It [the road] will be closed for some time,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police said in an update posted at 1.55pm.

“Please find alternative routes when travelling.”
