The wife and children of celebrity chef Paul Heathcote had a narrow escape from injury when a hit and run driver crashed into their car and drove off without stopping.
Gaby Heathcote was taking her teenage children to Stonyhurst College yesterday morning (Tuesday) when the incident occurred on Rock Brow in Thornley.
She said: “This car - I couldn’t take in its make - came out of a side road, ran straight into us, failed to stop, and my car was spun around and landed almost in the field on the other side of the road.
“I don’t think the driver even slowed down - it was all quite shocking.”
Mrs Heathcote suffered slight whiplash, her son had treatment for shock at Stonyhurst’s infirmary while her daughter was unhurt.
Both children were picked up from the scene by friends also going to Stonyhurst, but the family’s car was left undriveable with its rear wheels totally buckled.
“We were very, very lucky,” said Mrs Heathcote. “It could have been much worse if timings had been different.
“It’s a busy road at that time, the light was good - but someone somewhere must know about a very damaged car - bits of it were left on the road. The person driving needs to be stopped.”
Police were called to the incident but had not commented at the time of going to press.
