Top professional Rugby League player Tyrone McCarthy (Workington Wolves and Ireland) was guest of honour on the field at Whitechapel School’s harvest appeal fundraiser recently.
The school has been raising cash for the G.I.V.E.E. fund (Groups Involved in Voluntary Educational Experiences), which works closely with a project in Gambia, West Africa.
Local families have also donated basic equipment and resources such as medical supplies, toothbrushes, pens, pencils and exercise books.
A school spokesman said: “Tyrone McCarthy joined with us and the pupils benefited from a fantastic fun rugby session at school.”
