Villages celebrate Best Kept success

Watch out ... there’s a best kept village about near you

They’re the tops and it’s official – seven local villages scored highly in this year’s Lancashire best Kept Village contest and none more than St Michaels.

This picturesque Wyre village scooped the top award in the small villages section of the annual awards.

Inskip with Sowerby came fourth in this section and was Highly CommendedMeanwhile Ingelwhite came sixth.

In the Champion Villages section, which was won by Blacko, Whitechapel came fourth. In the medium sized villages section Chipping came first and Great Eccleston eighth.

Elswick also earned a Highly Commended award in the Certificate of Merit winners’ section.

The Awards will be presented at The Villa, Wrea Green,on October 20.

Competition secretary Jeanette Lowe said: “There were 73 villages which entered which is slightly up on last year. The standard is always very high”

The competition started in 1958 and was set up by the Community Council of Lancashire whose members believed such a competition would promote a better 
environment for all in the county.
