Westmorland cricket league- Division one.
Shireshead and Fornton 210-6,Sedgwick 93 all out.
Shireshead travelled to Sedgwick for the penultimate game of the season and recorded another 15 point victory on their travels.
Having been asked to bat first, Shireshead raced to 39 before Steve Yates fell to J Portmann in the seventh over.
Opening partner Paul Yates (33) continued to keep the scoreboard ticking along nicely until J Matthews took two quick wickets to leave the score at 75-3 from 23 overs. Simon Gould (44) and Danny Wilkinson (38) then added 88 in the biggest partnership of the day to strengthen Shireshead’s hand as they both scored fluently all round the wicket.
Their removal only brought Peter Wilson (24 not out) and Phil Oliver (24) to the crease.
Wilson deposited his first ball over mid-wicket for six and Oliver added two further maximums to ensure a healthy 210-6 was posted on a wicket which always offered a little to the bowlers.
Danny Wilkinson (4 for 25) removed S Portmann without scoring in the first over of Sedgwick’s reply, and soon added J Portmann and M Flynn to the list of cheap casualties.
Wilkinson then capped a super spell by removing Mike Bracken, who was well caught on the third-man boundary by Rowan Upton, and when Alex Taylor dismissed Adam Hornby Sedgwick were teetering at 39-5.
Upton (3 for 14) then took ball in hand and bowled Ian Wilson with a superb googly, before the underused Simon Gould (2 for 15) ended a valiant effort from Kevin Williams in a devastating short spell.
Upton delivered the final blow as he bowled Matthews to wind up the Sedgwick effort for 93.
