IN the Lancaster and Morecambe League Division One, the Garstang C team got the week off to a great start with a 28-5 victory over University C.
Kelly Southward and Andrew Williams both went undefeated, and only Stuart Southward tasted defeat in a very one-sided contest.
Things got even better on Wednesday, as Garstang B took on MHS Aces and emerged 30-2 victors. Captain Jim Vasey, Mike Gregory and sub Stuart Southward were all unstoppable as they crushed the very weak Morecambe High School side.
Finally in Division One, Garstang D took on Morecambe High School B, and came away defeated 23-15. Joseph Peat and Thomas Gorst both won two matches, and captain Kevin Aughton was unlucky to lose all three.
In the Premier Division, Garstang A were up against University B, and expected a tough match. However, Garstang emerged comfortable 27-12 winners. Luke McGrath and Rebecca Hodgson both went undefeated, and only Rebecca McGrath dropped points, losing out 3-2 in her final match. Defeat in the doubles accounted for the remaining dropped points.
In the Preston League, Martin Wyatt is one of only two players who still has a 100% undefeated record, claiming three wins in Garstang A’s 7-3 victory over Riverside B. Graham Coupe also claimed three wins, and together the pair claimed the doubles. Sub Rebecca Hodgson, playing at this level for the first time, put in a creditable performance, but was unable to claim any points.
The B team are currently at the bottom of the Premier Division table, after an 8-2 loss to BAE B. Martin Ireland claimed the two points for Garstang.
Six Garstang players were in action at the Blackpool 2* Junior Tournament on Sunday. Kelly Southward and brother Stuart, Ross Carter, Luke McGrath, Ben Hynes and Rebecca Hodgson. Rebecca fared the best of the six, losing out to Beth Farnworth in the junior girls’ final.
