Batsmen struggle in Shireshead win
Shireshead & Forton 171 for 8Bare 152 all out
The curtain fell on another season as Shireshead won at Bare by 19 runs. The final game of the season was played out in lovely sunny conditions but on a damp wicket which made it difficult for the batsmen to time the ball.
Shireshead mixed up their batting order and were off to a flier as Tom Jacques and Stephen Yates added 38 for the first wicket before Yates fell for a quickfire 30.
Simon Gould (23) and Gareth Jennings (32) also scored at a good rate, whilst veteran David Murphy kept the innings ticking along nicely as A Bhardhaj (3 for 33) bowled a controlled spell.
Paul Yates (31) and Luke Bray added 39 for 8th wicket to ensure Shireshead posted a competitive 171 for 8.
The Bare reply began badly as F Smith was run out without facing due to sharp work by Jacques and Murphy. Pete Dodd (2 for 38) and Luke Bray (3 for 23) continued the good work and Bare were soon reduced to 23 for 5, however J Moller (34) and A Sharman (36) fought back gallantly to put the game back in the melting pot.
Peter Wilson removed Moller before the introduction of Jacques (2 for 7) hastened the end and young Bray returned to take the final wicket which capped a fine personal performance.
The season ends with Shireshead 3rd in the table to accompany their cup double, a fine effort but the wait goes on for that elusive league title.
