ONLY one goal conceded in three consecutive away draws must give Garstang the confidence to pull away from the bottom of the division, although neither side did enough to win this somewhat dire encounter.
Leigh and Kelsall replaced Porter and Jones in the Garstang starting line-up.
Stone for Garstang and Newsham for Fulwood both created their own chances for their respective clubs in the first 10 minutes, but wayward shooting kept the scoreline blank.
Howell was brought into action on 20 minutes, tipping over a fine effort by Burne.
Garstang went on to create a number of good chances in the first half. First, West set up a good opportunity for Chapman, but the midfielder couldn’t take advantage, then on 28 minutes the ball broke for Stone, after some good pressure by the Garstang midfield, but the striker probably took his shot too early, blasting wide.
Leigh headed a West corner into the hands of Fulwood keeper Thomas, before Chapman again wasted a golden opportunity when the ball was presented to him following a poor clearance.
In what turned out to be a second half full of mistakes, Garstang’s only real chance came in the 53rd minute, when West won the ball in midfield before threading a pass to Kelsall on his left. His run and cross was too good for the Fulwood defenders, and also for the onrushing Stone.
Both sides worked hard to cancel one another out, resulting in only a minimal amount of half-chances at either end.
Although a creditable draw, the Garstang FC management team will be hoping to go one better in their fifth away fixture on the bounce, when they travel to play Lostock St Gerards, managed by former Garstang boss Stuart Darley, on Saturday.
