For once, it wasn’t Garstang’s Riverside pitch which forced the postponement of Saturday’s game against Furness Rovers.

Due to the adverse weather causing poor road conditions, the Cumbrians were advised by the local police not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

Before overseeing a training session with the second team squad, whose game had been called off at Eagley, Garstang boss Iain Swan took the opportunity to cast an eye over two of his team’s West Lancashire League rivals, as Hesketh Bank were playing host to top-of-the-table Norcross and Warbreck.

The league leaders suffered their first defeat of the season, (4-2) which was probably the result that the Garstang manager didn’t want, with Hesketh Bank closing the gap on his team to six points.

Swan had nothing to report on new signings, but did say that “he had irons in the fire” and that Connor Crossley’s injury may not be as serious as first feared.

l Garstang FC will be holding a Race Night in the Kings Arms tomorrow, March 28.
