Garstang travelled to Coppull looking to bounce back from last weeks disappointing cup defeat.

Coppull would be tough opposition for top of the table Garstang having beaten Charnock last week.

On an excellent playing surface, Garstang started briskly dominating the early exchanges with some excellent interplay from back to front. After 11 minutes and against the run of play, Coppull won the ball on the half way line and worked the ball between the static Garstang defence and the Coppull forward slotted the ball past Curwen with ease into the Garstang net.

Garstang brushed themselves down and started to pressure Coppull high up the pitch with Swindlehurst in sparkling form down the right side of the Garstang midfield. Coppull were using every opportunity to try and slow the game down as Garstang’s tempo was high. In the closing minutes of the half,Garstang went close when an excellent Sutcliff corner was met by Panepinto who had eluded his marker and headed just over the bar. Garstang continued to press but were unable to craft a further clear goal scoring opportunity and Garstang reached half time one nil down but still very much in the game.

The second half continued where the first had ended, with Garstang in the ascendancy. Jack had a shot tipped over the bar by the Coppull keeper and from the resulting corner, Garstang were denied a clear penalty when the Coppull player handled in the area but this was not seen by the official. Garstang’s resilience was soon rewarded in the 65th minute when Panepinto won the ball back in midfield and attacked the Coppull defence winning a corner. Sutcliff whipped in a perfect cross on to the head of Tom Graham at the front post, who using the pace of the cross, flicked a delicate header past the outstretched hand of the Coppull keeper and Garstang were level.

Miller and Baldwin were resolute in the centre of the defence and with Graham and Crook working hard in midfield, Garstang never looked like losing this and in the last 15 minutes both sides cancelled each other out with a draw probably a fair result for both teams.

Manager Bailey was pleased with how the team had responded to last weeks poor performance and the draw extended Garstang’s lead in the division. Next week Garstang have a top of the table blockbuster against rivals Charnock Richard under lights at the Riverside, with a 3pm kick off.
