Charnock Richard 3....Garstang 0

The visit to Mossie Park was made even more difficult for Garstang Manager Neil Crossley with four absentees .

McGahon, Baker, Dodd and top scorer Poole who looks at this point to have secured a permanent move to Lancaster City were all absent from the away match.

Hay, Crook and Swindlehurst all made Garstang’s starting line up with David Jack on the bench.

The visitors were soon under pressure, a snap shot by Nolan was comfortably saved by Brindle then a long range effort by Grimshaw cleared the crossbar.

Garstang recorded their first chance when Bates smothered a Mattichechia strike in a good move started by Crook. Louth headed a Gierke corner over the bar as Garstang began to match their opponents.

Crook pushed Burrows over in a dangerous position just outside the Garstang penalty box but Fisher’s free kick sailed well over the bar. Garstang were giving away too many free kicks when Fawcett brought down Fisher in another potential goal scoring situation in the 33rd minute. Brindle couldn’t hold Bibby’s free kick, Fisher following up to open up Charnock’s account.

A sound tackle by Bell on Burrows who was bearing down on the Garstang goal soon after prevented goal number two.

Charnock weren’t having it all their own way. A promising move started by Louth which involved an interchange of passes between Taylor and Mattichechia saw the latters shot blocked in the last real action of the first half.

Jack replaced the injured Swindlehurst at the interval but Garstang’s task was made even more onerous within a minute when Fisher was allowed to run deep into their half before feeding Roberts who lashed the ball home to make it 2 – 0. It was the worst possible start for the “Riversiders” who had dealt well with Charnock’s power and movement, Crossley and Bell doing particularly well in the heart of the Garstang defence.

Half chances fell to Gierke and Fawcett as the visitors fought hard to get something out of the game but it was Charnock who always looked like they could increase their score. Brindle had to be at his best to keep out a cross that was almost deflected into his own net by Crook.

Graham replaced Crook in the 63rd minute. Nolan shot narrowly wide then Brindle tipped another effort by Roberts who was making his 700th appearance, round the post.

Roskell replaced Mattichechia in the 82th minute but the game was put to bed in the 84th minute when Grimshaw’s pile driver from 30 yards flew past Brindle in the Garstang goal.

Taylor and Gierke picked up late bookings before Hay cleared off the line in the last minute to maintain the final 3 – 0 score line.
