Crossley surprisingly declared himself fit to replace Makin in the centre of the defence for a tough game at Haslington, while Bardsley replaced the injured Ireland and Jack, Sawicki and Buzynski joined Graham who had made such an impact the week before, on the bench.

Poole gave Garstang a sixth minute lead when he tucked away an excellent through ball by Draycott.

If the visitors had expected the floodgates to open they were wrong as Haslingden exploited some big gaps in the Garstang defence, Richmond having the best chance which he failed to convert in the 25th minute.

A superb crossfield ball by Poole picked out Draycott but the Garstang winger couldn’t control his strike that went over the bar.

Gierke did well when he denied Jenkins a goal scoring opportunity then the Haslingden striker had another chance but shot over.

The game was end to end, Draycott made good progress into the home penalty area before picking out Anderson, pictured, who slipped when in a good position.

Clemance shot narrowly wide following a run that took him too easily past the Garstang defence.

A Haslingden equaliser wasn’t a surprise but the way it happened was through an uncharacteristic slip as Brindle in the Garstang goal failed to gather up a loose ball resulting in Richmond applying the finishing touch, five minutes before the break.

Garstang dominated for long periods in the second half but a lack of composure in front of goal meant that they had to settle for a point at the end.

Fawcett was unlucky when one goal bound effort was deflected for a corner but missed two further opportunities after getting himself into good positions which on another day could have rewarded the skipper with a hat trick.

An Anderson free kick found the head of Draycott but he couldn’t beat Bell who punched the ball clear.

Haslingden had chances of their own when Egan headed wide in the 68th minute and a heart stopping moment saw a Hoyle shot curl just wide of the post in the final minute to maintain the 1–1 score line.

Manager, Swan did try to change things when he brought on Sawicki for Mattichecchia and Graham for Draycott but this time the magic didn’t work.

For the record Draycott for Garstang and Clemance for Haslingden were yellow carded in what was a cleanly fought game.
