Great Escape boss Ronnie Moore would love management return after losing Hartlepool United job

Moore was sacked by Pools last Wednesday, in the aftermath of the 2-1 defeat to Stevenage a week ago in the vital League Two six pointer.

The 63-year-old was upset to be discarded under 10 months since inspiring the Great Escape as Pools beat the drop from the Football League.

To Moore’s credit he bowed out gracefully, wishing Gary Coxall, the man who fired him, “all the luck in the world” in an interview with SportMail.

And he took to social media at the end of the week to wish Pools and the fans well ahead of Saturday’s match with Yeovil.

Moore has told SportMail that, for all he may be hurting now, he would “love” to be back in the dugout.

“I might not be ready at this moment, it’s always harder losing a job when you don’t expect it,” he said.

“But I would like to get back, if something becomes available.

“There is nothing worse being a football man and finding yourself out of the [mangement] game.

“Whether it’s league or non-league job, I’d love to return – someone might have a fire somewhere they need fighting!”

Moore had hoped to reach 1,000 games as a manager while with Pools given he had signed a three-year contract in the summer at the Vic.

But the veteran former Tranmere, Rotherham and Oldham manager currently stands on 890.

“I fancy 1,000 games in management and I thought I might have got there with Gaz [Coxall] but sadly not,” he said. “Hopefully, something may become available.”

Moore will currently devote his time to the Ronnie Moore Football Academy and Development Centre in his adopted home town of Rotherham.

The Scouser is rated by many in South Yorkshire as the greatest player to ever represent the Millers.

“I have a football academy for Rotherham and the area and I’ll spend more time with that,” he said.

But Moore reserved the last word for Pools, adding: “I loved it at Hartlepool.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the club, plus the fans, the town and the press.

“I think the press were fantastic in how they’ve reported things and it’s sad that things have not worked out as we’d hoped for the club.”
