Hurst Green win

West Lancashire Football League Division 2

A sloppy second half display marred an otherwise straightforward victory for the leaders as they made it 9 games unbeaten in their push for promotion and the title. A hat-trick from debutant Paul Coote was another plus point for Seedall’s men as they brushed aside a poor Milnthorpe side who remain rock bottom.

Coote had the easiest of first goals as with only minutes gone, the ‘keeper skewed a clearance straight to the striker’s feet and he duly obliged by slotting the ball into the empty net. The hapless defending continued as Hayes’ goalbound shot was diverted beyond the keeper and into the net to make it 2-0. Hayes grabbed his second of the game as he was released into the box and his shot was too strong for the number 1.

It was virtually one-way traffic with the home side getting behind Corinthians defence time after time but wasted several opportunities.

The move of the game gave Coote his second; Green worked the ball well into Haworth and his lovely flighted ball found Coote at the back post and he nodded in to bring up four.

Sub Scott came on and injected some more pace and tempo into Green’s play but time and time again Green’s efforts at goal flew high and wide. Walker had an excellent opportunity to grab his first goal of the game but didn’t make a strong enough connection with the ball as he tried to lift it over the keeper.

Corinthians, to their credit, battled valiantly and got their consolation goal from the spot as a Corinthians player took a tumble in the box after an innocuous looking challenge from Brierley. With the home side struggling to get any kind of rhythm going, the away side got a second in comical fashion as Chester, blinded by the sun, lost sight of a high ball and Hays nipped in to tuck the ball away. Coote got his hat trick from the spot in the final minute after a blatant handball following a cross into the box. Green travel to Croston Sports Club on Tuesday (9th) for a crucial game, 6.15pm kick off and then play their final home game of the season where they face lowly Barrow Wanderers, a 3pm kick off.

Team: Chester ; Bolton, Bamber, Bartlett (Aspinwall), Brierley ; Hayes (C ) (Scott), Sargeson, Haworth (Cookson), Davies ; Walker, Coote.
