Former Republic of Ireland international and ex-Preston North End number one Alan Kelly has taken over as boss of Chipping Junior’s FC under 9s – and his first task is to sign up a goalkeeper.
Kelly and new assistant manager Karl Ramalli have stepped into the roles after former manager Pete Slinger had to give up his position due to other commitments.
The pair, who took over training the young squad just before the Christmas break, are looking forward to their first fixtures of the new year, but are keen to strengthen the team with the addition of a permanent goalkeeper.
Ramalli, a PE teacher, who has been working with the Mid Lancs Colt Junior Football League team for the past year, said: “We were approached about running the side after the previous manager could not carry on. We’ve both got connections to the club and it was important for the team to continue and not let it fold. The lads love their football and we have a solid 10 players, we’re just short of a goalkeeper so there is an opportunity for any player who wants to come along and give it a go.
“And there is obviously an advantage with Alan to help!”
The PNE goalkeeping coach has had a long association with Chipping FC, serving as its president.
And Ramalli said they were both enjoying the chance to encourage young players within the sport and help them enjoy and improve their game.
The squad train every Monday evening from 6 to 7pm at Chipping Village Hall on Garstang Road, Chipping.
Home fixtures are currently played on the shared fields at Brabin’s Endowed and St Mary’s RC Primary School, but with plans to re-locate to the club’s re-developed fields later this year.
The next game this Sunday, January 12, is away at Penwortham St Teresa’s, kick-off 1pm. Any players interested in joining Chipping Juniors Under 9s, should call Karl Ramalli on 07554354189.
