PNE are in action at Vicarage Road this afternoon

Preston North End are in action at Watford this afternoon, for 2023/24’s Gentry Day.

Many of the travelling Lilywhites faithful - of which there are around two thousand - will don bowler hats and suits, as those who’ve passed away in the last 12 months and more are remembered. On the pitch, Ryan Lowe’s side are looking to bounce back from defeat to Birmingham City, on Easter Monday.

PNE head into the weekend sitting eighth, with hopes of reaching the play-offs still alive. North End are part of the chasing pack and have seven games left, to try and break in. As for the Hornets, interim boss Tom Cleverley has overseen one win and two draws in his three games in charge. Watford, who are 14th ahead of kick-off, were 5-1 winners at Deepdale earlier this season.

Watford vs Preston North End LIVE

59' Away fans roaring PNE on (0-0)

They’ve been singing, pretty much, non-stop today and if PNE can take the lead then this away end is going to absolutely explode. Brady swings a corner in from the left and it’s cleared, but his follow up cross finds Whatmough - who nods wide. The ball was behind him and he struggled to generate any real power.

56' Not miles off (0-0)

Hoedt takes aim from about 35 yards out but his strike is sweet and only just wide of the top right corner. That would’ve been an incredible goal.

50' Fantastic from Riis (0-0)

PNE break well from a Watford corner, with Osmajic holding the ball up and Keane spraying it over the top for Riis to fetch, down the right. With his back to goal, Riis powers down the right, past his man and wins a free-kick in a dangerous position. Brady swings it in, close to the byline, but Storey - who felt his shirt was being held - nods high and wide.

And we’re back under way at Vicarage Road... a big second half in store as PNE go in search of all three points, to keep pace with those play off places. Mads Frokjaer, Duane Holmes and Layton Stewart are all attacking options off the bench, for Ryan Lowe.

HT: Watford 0-0 PNE

Goalless at the break - the big chances having fallen to Whatmough and Hughes, both from set pieces. Second half to come!

45' Massive chance missed

PNE keep a corner alive and it drops for Hughes, who looks certain to score. But, he drags his first time effort well, well wide and is left with his hands on his head. That ought to have been the opener for Preston.

44' Crucial Watford tackle (0-0)

Osmajic breaks through well and shifts it across to Keane, but it’s taken away from him as he prepared to pull the trigger.

43' Drifting to half time (0-0)

It’s been a flat first half on the whole, having started fairly end-to-end and intense. The game has been played on PNE’s terms, given the team selected by Ryan Lowe today. They have made it a battle.

23' Not quite sticking (0-0)

The game has become a little bit flat, but the PNE fans are still in fine voice. North End, as expected, are not trying to play much in their own half at all. The ball is getting sent forward, quickly, but Preston are struggling to keep it alive up there for now. Brady and Riis have shown some sharp touches, in moments. Osmajic yet to really get into the game.

18' Carrying on (0-0)

McCann is back on and moving fine.
