West Lancashire League - Reserve Division 1

Garstang Reserves 3 Euxton Villa FC Reserves 0

In a very strong wind, both sides took a little time to master the conditions but soon Gartsang slipped into gear and started to play some neat, tidy football. Garstang were awarded a free kick in a central position 30 yards out from goal, Jack fired a stinging shot over the wall which the Euxton keeper could only parry and Swindlehurst responded quicker than anyone else to shoot into the corner and put Garstang 1:0 up. This goal rocked Euxton and soon the lead was doubled when Andy Ireland whipped in a dangerous corner onto the head of Jack, who out jumped his markers to bury the header into the Euxton net. Euxton tried to rally but the Garstang midfield never gave them any time to settle on the ball and as half time approached, Garstang killed the game off when Panepinto latched on to a through ball and rounded the keeper to calmly slide the ball into the Euxton net past the defender on the line. Euxton came out in the second half looking to try and get something from the game. They tried to press Garstang further up the pitch and win more tackles nearer the Garstang goal, but were still unable to breech the excellent, as per usual, Garstang defence and create a clear goal scoring opportunity. Curwen’s handling in the Garstang goal was exemplary and Garstang were never going to let Euxton back into this game. Taylor and Crook were dominant in the centre of the park, Panepinto and Swindlehurst were always looking dangerous up front. Manager Bailey made three changes mid way through the second half and Turner impressed upon his return to action following illness and injury. Garstang had some further chances one of which saw Andy Taylor head over in front of goal following a great run and cross by Panepinto but the result was never in doubt and Garstang completed another win.

In stormy conditions, this was another impressive win for Garstang which sees them consolidate their position at the top of the division. Manager Paul Bailey was very pleased with the performance and overall team work rate but with the visit of Fulwoood next week to the Riverside, Garstang will need to be at their best again.
