The 21-year-old has joined from Aston Villa, with the Lilywhites paying undisclosed youth compensation to Villa.

North End is a club Robinson knows well, having had three loan spells in the last two seasons.

He first came to Deepdale in September 2014, scoring five goals in 11 appearances – including a hat-trick against Havant and Waterlooville in the FA Cup.

After being recalled by Villa, Robinson rejoined PNE later that campaign.

Last season, he signed on loan for a third time in January.

Although mainly used as a substitute, he scored in successive games against Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City.

Robinson said: “I’m really happy to get the deal done. I’ve had a few loans here and I’ve really enjoyed my time with the lads and the coaching staff.

“It was obviously a big decision for me leaving Aston Villa – I’ve been there since I was eight-years-old – but if there was ever a club for me to settle down with and sign permanently with, it would be Preston North End.”

PNE manager Simon Grayson said: “In Callum we think we have a young, hungry player who we can develop.

“He’s not the finished article yet but he knows what he needs to do to get better.”

Robinson had reached the end of his contract with Villa but had been offered a new deal.

However, he turned that down in favour of the switch to Preston and the opportunity of more first-team football.
